1st , 2nd, 3rd , 4th place prizes. Plus, honorable mention.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION
Select from a WORK OF ART listed below. Write your ekphrastic response. Your response may be in free- verse, rhyme or prose and taking any shape you desire. Your submission must fit on one page. On the reverse side of the page, place your contact information: name, cell phone number and mailing address.
HOW TO SUBMIT THE WORK
- In-Person: Drop your poem into the box on display at The Caribbean Writer table (St Croix only) by 4 pm Sunday, February 18. These submissions will be judged by a panel of three.
- Online: Follow The Caribbean Writer on Twitter. Then post your poem with this hashtag: #viagfest2019. The more likes you receive, the greater your chances of winning one of four prizes.
WORKS OF ART
WORK IS JUDGED BY THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Word choice and order are precise, colorful, and evocative, and create audible appeal.
Line length, line breaks, along with word choice and order, enhance the clarity, meaning, and movement of the poem.
The poem effectively explores or relates to the art work. DRAMA
Figurative language creates rich or broad sensory appeal. IMPACT
The idea, perspective, or presentation is unique and fresh.
**”Ekphrasis,” (also spelled “ecphrasis”), is the practice of using words to comment on a piece of visual art.
