Who we are
The Caribbean Writer (TCW)-–Where the Caribbean Imagination Embraces the World-–is an international, refereed, literary journal with a Caribbean focus, founded in 1986 and published annually by the University of the Virgin Islands.
Editor-in-Chief
Alscess Lewis-Brown joined the TCW as the editor in 2012; she has served as a member of the editorial board and comes to TCW with over twenty-five years of experience as an adjunct English instructor at the University of the Virgin Islands.

Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

When you contact us, we’ll ask you to provide information including your name, email address, and message. We’ll use this information o follow up on your inquiry.
Who on our team has access
Members of our team have access to the information you provide us. For example, Administrators can access the biographical info, contact info, and the message you entered into the contact form.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Online Community
What we collect and store
When you register with our site, we’ll ask you to provide information including your name, username, email address, and password. We’ll use this information for purposes, such as, to:
- Set up your account for our online community
- Enable other online community members to find you and request to connect with you
- Enable you to exchange messages with other online community members and receive notifications in your email inbox.
Files that are uploaded and shared through BuddyDrive in this website are stored in our servers.
Your availability info that is shared through Rendez Vous in this website are stored in our servers.

What we collect and store
When you submit your work for publication consideration in The Caribbean Writer journals, we’ll ask you to provide information including your name, address, email address, mobile number, submission files, and submission details. We’ll use this information for purposes, such as, to:
- Contact you regarding the status of your submission
- Send you the prize when we accept your submission
- Publish your accepted submission to our journals and sometimes the website or other online resources like Joomag

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
