This, 2024, edition of The Caribbean Writer (TCW) is themed, Legacies: Reckoning and Resilience. The poems, short stories, one act plays, essays and other selections that the reader will find between these pages weave a metanarrative with the various perspectives explored in the fabric of this theme.

In the interiority of each selection, there seems to be a reckoning taking place as each selection speaks to the other. Some selections hold the powerful accountable through subtle plot insights and imagery. Others, through dynamic characterization, enlighten the reader’s beliefs about the legacies of abuse in corridors that we often ignore. Yet, others create characters that examine the dynamics of friendship, childhood and the vicissitudes of poverty. Some channel point of view to explore settings that rise out of history and the vision of community, while others reckon with family inter racial legacies. Each testify to the abiding reckoning with legacies that accounts for the strength and resilience of literature produced by writers within and outside of the Caribbean diaspora that is both entertaining and sobering.
